The Swedish Express Class Association is proud to announce that the Open Swedish Championship in Express 2016 will be held in Båstad, with Sailing Båstad as organizer. It is during the Seglarveckan (sailing week) in Båstad week 31 that the Open Swedish Championship will be held with sailings from Thursday to Saturday, August 4 to 6 in 2016.
In the picturesque village of Båstad has the organizers Sailing Båstad, during the past six years, organized several large events, from the European Championship in Drake and the World Championship in Farr 30, to the Swedish Youth Championship, which in 2015 attracted 525 sailors in 10 different classes. And not to be forgotten the Mästarnas Mästare who annually invites all Swedish champions in the different sailing classes and is since 2010 settled in Båstad.
The Express class has since its birth in 1979 been one of Sweden’s largest keelboat one design classes which annually attracts many boats for the championships. As late as 2014 there were 53 boats on the start line in Marstrand, but also abroad is the Express class attracting large numbers of sailors. During the Nordic Championships in Oslo in 2014, it was 110 boats on the starting line, and the class is collecting large one design fleets in Norway, Denmark, Germany and Finland.
– I hope we will be able to approach the number of participants from Marstrand in 2014 (53 boats), because the conditions are perfect here; Båstad is relatively close to Denmark, Germany and Norway, it is easily accessible along the E6 highway, and they have Sweden’s best organizers who year after year organizes incredibly professional competitions. And then to sail in the fantastic Båstad during the Båstad Seglarveckan with all its activities is the icing on the cake, explains Daniel Stenholm, SM manager from the Swedish Express Class Association.
– My own experiences from the arrangements of Sailing Båstad is very positive. Another advantage for us Express sailors is that we can combine participation in the Championship in Båstad with the participation of our Nordic Championships in Kerteminde week 33 with smooth logistics, due to we have the opportunity to keep our boats nearby Båstad. See you in Båstad, says Björn Österberg, well known Express sailor and president of the Swedish Express Class Association.
– Båstad is a fantastic sailing venue close to everything. The sailing area is just outside of the Båstad harbor and the bay of Laholm can offer exciting winds and big waves. We think it will be great to get one of Sweden’s largest keelboat classes to us and we will ensure that this will be the best Express SM ever, says Pekko Svensson, project manager from Sailing Bastad.
